They may not be the Big Red Machine reincarnate yet.
But this team is better, after acquiring Eric Milton,
Ramon Ortiz, Joe Randa, Kent Mercker and Rich Aurilia --
even if the Great American Ballpark isn't exactly a
perfect fit for Milton and Ortiz, two of the five active
pitchers who have served up 40 gopherballs in a season.
While the corner outfield positions appear to be one of
the Reds' greatest strengths entering the 2005 season,
they're also one of the biggest question marks.
After a breakout season in which he hit 46 home runs
with 102 RBIs, Adam Dunn appears to have left field
locked down, which probably leaves Austin Kearns and
Wily Mo Pena competing for the lion's share of time in
right.

Reds Baseball Tickets
Mar. 31, 2003: Cincinnati hosts one of the most
anticipated openers in club history with the debut of
Great American Ball Park. The Reds lose to the Pirates,
10-1, before a sellout crowd of 42,343.
With 389 career home runs, Hall of Fame catcher Johnny
Bench ranks first in Reds' history. Bench also ranks in
the top 5 in RBI's, doubles, hits, and runs scored.
In their first season under manager Dave Miley, the Reds
jumped off to a surprising start, finishing the first
half of the season six games above .500 and in
contention for a playoff spot. However, injuries and
inconsistent pitching led to a second-half slide, which
left them with a 76-86 record at season's end. Despite
the decline, however, there were plenty of bright spots.
In the final campaign of his 19-year run with the Reds,
Barry Larkin hit .289. Ken Griffey Jr., belted his 500th
home run on Father's Day in St. Louis before undergoing
season-ending hamstring surgery a few weeks later. Danny
Graves became the club's all-time saves leader and Adam
Dunn led the team with 46 home runs and 102 RBIs.
2011 Preview
New uniforms, new players, new owner, new manager; the
Reds' are ready to battle it out. After Robert
Castellini's take over as owner in 2006, he appointed
Wayne Krivsky as general manager. A noted change has
occurred with the Reds ever since. Krivsky quickly
traded off Wily Mo Pena for pitcher Bronson Arroyo.
Right-hander Bronson Arroyo remains with the Reds till
2010. 2006 served all things nice for Arroyo including a
major league leading of 3852 pitches. In the last match
against the Red Sox, starter Kyle Lohse rose to the
occasion. He got five scoreless innings, striking out
three and giving up three hits. Adam Dunn = Home runs.
Adam Dunn, the 26 year old has a career 14.3
at-bat-per-homer ratio, which has an all time rank of
11. Also, Dunn has the two highest single-season
strikeout totals in history. At the rate, Dunn has been
going, he is touted to be the Reds' all-time leader in
home runs. Dunn, Jeff Conine, Ken Grifey andRyan Freel
are the main four outfielders as of now. Hamilton,
recovered from his substance abuse is looking to be the
fifth outfielder. However, Reds' management hasn't
confirmed nor denied it. Kudos to Aaron Harang who
lasted 4.2 innings against the Yankees which is recorded
as the longest outing for a Reds starter this season.
Pitcher Eric Milton showed recovery from arthroscopic
surgery by performing fielding drills. The Reds have
signed up Jeff Keppinger, Norris Hopper, Edwin
Encarnacion and Elizardo Ramirez to one-year contracts.
Dustin Hermanson, the 34 year old right- hander pitched
19 games without giving up a run in 2005 season. He has
now joined the Reds as closer as a non-roster invitee.
With fans like President George W. Bush, who threw the
first ceremonial pitch, the nation will be watching the
Reds' with bated breath.
